Manchester United have not had the desired of starts for season 2019/20 with the team hovering around midtable for the best part of the 3 months of the new season.
But, there has been patterns as to how and why United are struggling. It has been so frustrating for the supporters because the team haven’t been generally poor. It has been moments where very good chances have been missed and some very silly defensive mistakes in some instances. Even though creativity in general has been poor, there have been enough chances for United to win the games where they have dropped points.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ed Woodward should already be planning ahead with the future in mind as they have always reiterated that it was always a 3 year project at the very least and there would be no knee jerk reactions from United as seen in the recent past.
What should United do in January?
The opinion of every Manchester United fan is simple: Don’t leave ourselves with too much of a bridge to cover when the initial part of the project is complete. In other words, don’t leave the short term on its own and achieve something now and also concentrate on long term.
Manchester United’s best run of results in the season came when a certain Anthony Joran Martial has been playing centrally. He is so important for the system United play these days. When Martial was injured when United endured their worst run in years, which resulted in the worst ever PL start ever made by the club. The lack of a focal point in attack was there to see.
Manchester United, especially after selling Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez after the summer window closed, are in urgent need of upgrades up front. Anthony Martial is good. But, you can’t find a more inconsistent player than Anthony Martial too. He has the talent to be more consistent. Injuries surely have not helped him. And those injuries are exactly the reason Man United need to go into the market for a striker in JANUARY.
United’s options in January?
Mario Mandzukic has been a target since summer. He was quoted by Juventus as a possible bait in a bid to get Lukaku. Since that move failed due to Paulo Dybala’s reluctance to go to the red side of Manchester, Mandzukic has not made an appearance for Juventus and has been wanting out ever since. He even went up to finalising a move to Qatar if we have to believe the Italian media. But, that move broke down for some reason.
POSSIBILITY: VERY HIGH chances of move to United happening as United exactly need what Mandzukic will offer. Experience, leadership, fight and ability to come of the bench and make an impact. Cheap and also will sign a short term Contract.
Erling Braut Haaland:
Erling Braut Haaland, a killer in front of goal, young, tenacious, Norwegian coming via Molde. Where have we heard that before? Yes. For a certain Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The excitement behind this talent and his next move is palpable in media as it is going to be the next big money move of the Felix, Mbappe kind.
Possibility: HIGH. Jim Solbakken has always played a massive role in a Norwegian player/coach going to a foreign club. Solbakken was the one who spotted Erling Haaland as a 14 year old and moved him to Molde FK, where he was nurtured by who? Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is also represented by Jim Solbakken. Hope is there.
Our prediction is that Manchester United will sign both Erling Braut Haaland and Mario Mandzukic. Question of paying the right money for both and getting them. But, having said that, I expect, Haaland to go back on a 6 or 18 month loan to Salzburg.
