Manchester United have moved ahead of Manchester City in the pursuit of Harry Maguire after upping their bid to £70m for the Leicester City defender, Sky Sports News understands.

Maguire was linked with a move to United last summer, with former United manager Jose Mourinho keen on bringing the Englishman to the club, but the move never materialized, which led to the departure of the Portuguese that December.
Maguire would be a much needed major upgrade for United at the back, who finished in the bottom five in defence ranking last season.
Maguire’s technical ability would also be an asset for the Reds, who have had issues moving the ball out of the pack last season.
United’s £70 million bid would make Maguire the third most expensive player in United history, and more notably, would rival the £75 million Liverpool paid for Virgil Van Dijk in January 2018.
