Jose Mourinho’s “Boring” Manchester United were held to a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford by 19th placed Crystal Palace. This was Crystal Palace’s first Prmeier League point against Manchester United.
Mourinho’s men were never at it. They never turned up. There was absolutely nothing on show for the supporters watching on at Old Trafford or for the supporters in front their television sets. No fight. No courage. No values. No cohesion. Absolutely nothing was right.
United started off very well. 10 minutes of good football. But, after that, as every match has been so far, it was absolutely horrific.
Cheikou Kouyate had a goal ruled out for offside late in the first half. Overall, Palace had the better opportunities with Patrick Van Aanholt and Andros Townsend missed easy chances.
In the second half, Lukaku thought he’d scored but that goal was also ruled out for offside. Later, Wayne Hennessey was superb when called upon making 3 excellent saves. But, that was just about it.
Jose Mourinho was not satisfied with the result.
“It is a bad result, I would say very bad result. It’s two points that we lost. The objective was in the eight matches until the end of December to recover positions, to get close to the top four and in the end we lost two points.”
David De Gea 6
Did what was asked to from him and made a couple of good saves. A much needed clean sheet.
Matteo Darmian 6
Was our best outfield player. Says it all. Our RB was our best player.
Chris Smalling 5
Not poor. But, not great. Average. And that is him.
Victor Lindelof 6.5
Higher rating than Darmian just because of his commitment in those last 5 minutes. He was also brilliant defensively. But, could have been better.
Ashley Young 4.5
Just not good enough for Manchester United anymore. Couldn’t cross. Couldn’t cut in. Adds no value to this team.
Nemanja Matic 3
Slow. Moribund. Lack of courage and fight, it’s as if Manchester United are a Xerox copy of Nemanja Matic’s characteristics.
Paul Pogba 2
Could have been and should have been a worse rating. Absolutely pathetically awful. A game that should have his stamp in it, he fails. Massively. This inconsistency will be the difference in him being world class and elite world class.
Juan Mata 6
Did what he had to do. Played his game. Created a couple of chances.
Jesse Lingard 5.5
Good in the first half. But, another player that won’t get into any other so called “elite” club’s first team.
Anthony Martial 4
Poor. After a long time. Very poor. Looked lost.
Romelu Lukaku 5
Poor again. Better than previous games but sadly, his previous games were 2/10’s.
Only one player that wanted to perform.
Was his usual self. Slow and hard on tackles.
Alexis Sanchez 6
Just have a feeling that he’s finally settling in. But, a long long way to go.
Wayne Hennessey 7
A couple of brilliant saves and clean sheet to go with it at Old Trafford. Great evening for the Welsh stopper.
Never let Ashley Young/Anthony Martial through free. Solid defensively.
James Tomkins 6
Good performance from him.
Mamadou Sakho 5
Poor game for the Frenchman who looked very fragile.
Patrick Van Aanholt 6
Missed what was probably the best chance of the match. Otherwise, was solid.
Luka Milivojevic 6
Solid performance from the defensive midfielder.
Cheikou Kouyate 5.5
Ruled out goal. But, had nothing much more to offer.
Max Meyer 7
It was a great game for the German who seems to be settling in to the Palace team.
James McCarthur 6
Nothing extraordinary. Positive or negative. A solid performance from the Scot.
Wilfried Zaha 6
Workhorse effort from the Ivory Coast international. But the goal was lacking.
Andros Townsend 7
Had a very good chance. But, failed to score. Otherwise, was the best Palace player on the pitch.
Jose Mourinho 3/10
Team Selection- wrong.
Team motivation- Non-existent.
Roy Hodgson 8/10
Set Palace up perfectly for that point but guess what they could have had the 3 points. Excellent game for the Palace manager. Excellent result as well.
